This policy applies to www.bookkeeperexpress.co.nz and not to other companies' or organisations' websites to which bookkeeper express is linked.
A major concern has been just how secure the Internet is, especially when you're sending sensitive information through it. This includes;
Information security is provided on computers and over the Internet by a variety of methods. A simple but straightforward security method is to only keep sensitive information on removable storage media. Another form of security is through encryption, the process of encoding information so that only the person (or computer) with the key can decode it.
The back-end technologies employed on this website for your interactions include managed, secure login control, with full MD5 encryption on any password or security related data element, for each client interaction with this website. This technology will provide reliable and secure authentication for every bookkeeper express client that connects through this website.
For more information on internet security, read through the sections below.
Encryption is the process of taking all of the data that one computer is sending to another and encoding it into a form that only the other computer will be able to decode. The encryption used on this website is public-key encryption, which is based on a hash value. The important thing about a hash value is that it is nearly impossible to derive the original input number without knowing the data used to create the hash value.
MD5 is based on 128-bit encryption, which uses a complex algorithm and very large hash values for encryption. A 128-bit number has a possible 2128 or 3,402,823,669,209,384,634,633,746,074,300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 different combinations! This is liken to trying to find one particular grain of sand in the Sahara Desert.
The security that results from the MD5 encryption used on the bookkeeper express website, means we have committed to robust solutions to handle the security and integrity of your data.

MD5 ENCRYPTION
[The MD5 algorithm] takes as input a message of arbitrary length and produces as output a 128-bit "fingerprint" or "message digest" of the input. It is conjectured that it is computationally infeasible to produce two messages having the same message digest, or to produce any message having a given pre-specified target message digest. The MD5 algorithm is intended for digital signature applications, where a large file must be "compressed" in a secure manner before being encrypted with a private (secret) key under a public-key cryptosystem such as RSA.
In essence, MD5 is a way to verify data integrity, and is much more reliable than checksum and many other commonly used methods.
